Col. William F. Deegan, Jr., USAF (Ret.), age 66, passed away on April 26, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas.

Bill proudly served our country as a decorated Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, flying in the Vietnam War and leading during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He was passionate about flight and aviation and worked as a Director for the San Antonio Air Power Heritage Foundation, established to build and operate one of the world's great air and space learning centers. Bill was also a world traveler, active community member, and an exquisite writer, who had a way with words. He was an avid sports fan with a love of golf, the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, San Antonio Spurs, and Carolina Tar Heels. Family was of the utmost importance to him. While ancestry was a hobby, taking care of his family was his love and life's work. An exceptional man, husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, Bill will be missed often and cherished always.

Bill died of a sudden heart attack in his sleep. His loving family welcomes you to honor his memory with a donation to fight heart disease.

I just heard about Bill and was shocked and saddened. I met him many years ago when my Dad (Bob Deegan) was in town (Austin) and we met in Gruene and had lunch. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Hearing of Bill's passing was like a kick to the solar plexus. My memories of Bill extend back to our high school days on a legendary soccer team that made it to the Connecticut State finals. Bill was a valuable member of the backfield that allowed only 2 goals during the entire season. Years later I had the privilege of seeing Bill at various soccer events and high school reunions and came to realize that this man was something special! His love of country and love of family was out there for all to see. I felt so comfortable around Bill. I would watch his interactions with his son, Alex, so positive! His writing skills were very evident. I cherish the communications I have had with him over the years. He will be missed. Farewell old friend.

We are sadden to hear of the loss of Bill. It was truly a privilege and honor to know Bill. He was a very compassionate man who cared dearly about his family. He also cared and gave much positive support and encouragement to children who aspired to play the game of soccer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl and his family.
